A Man For All Seasons
"...a man of an angel's wit and singular learning. I know not his fellow. For where is the man of that gentleness, lowliness and affability? And, as time requireth, a man of marvellous mirth and pastimes, and sometime of as sad gravity. A man for all seasons." This is the famous quote about Sir Thomas More , the 16th-century Lord Chancellor of England, who stayed true to his ideals to the last. When looking for a quote to honor Ray Sipherd, this quote stood out for me. Ray was a person with determined gentleness and kindness who used his talents to guide children through his work with Sesame Street and to guide adults through his beautiful plays along with his many other writings. I was fortunate to work with Ray on a number of his plays, bringing them to a first read at Brookfield Theatre. We spent many hours talking about his scripts and the larger ideas behind the stories.
